Chemotherapy
At COHA, the
administration of chemotherapy is a major component of the practice of
oncology and hematology. Chemotherapy is a combination of medicines
used in the treatment of cancer and can be administered as pills, or
more commonly given by intravenous (IV) infusions.
Specialized and
certified chemotherapy nurses in our offices give IV chemotherapy.
Even before chemotherapy is given our nurses administer anti-nausea
medications and help patients get comfortably settled in reclining
chairs.
The primary side
effects of chemotherapy include low blood counts, nausea and vomiting,
hair loss, mouth sores and diarrhea.
